East Riding CCG want to offer and an explanation for any inconvenience caused by recent internet network problems which impacted on patient care delivered by GP Practices. GP Practices are reliant on the internet network to access records on the clinical system that they use and to communicate with other health services. Following recent incidents when the internet network failed, we requested a formal investigation be undertaken by the relevant partner agencies. The investigation found no common themes, most were due to separate technical issues which were resolved quickly. The issue which had the most impact on patient care related to a third-party provider damaging a cable on the roadside causing damage to the IT national infrastructure.
Following the investigation we are putting in place a number of steps to reduce the risk of repeat incidents. Our IT infrastructure has been significantly upgraded over the last year so it’s the most secure, quickest and robust that it’s ever been. We apologise for any inconvenience that the recent issues may have caused. Whilst it is not possible for us to plan for every eventuality, we continue to monitor our IT systems and look for ways in which they can be improved and maintain the highest levels of reliability.
