To date we have given over 17,500 1st and 2nd dose Covid vaccines at Brough Surgery on behalf of the River & Wolds PCN (The Ridings Medical Group & Hessle Grange Medical Practice). We are delighted to share that over 95% of our patients in cohorts 1-9 have now received their 1st dose. Our staff have worked incredibly hard and worked a significant number of additional hours to deliver this service and we would like to thank them for their dedication and resilience during what has been a difficult year for both staff and patients alike. Thanks to our success in phase 1, we have been approved to deliver vaccines for phase 2 (patients aged 18-50). We are awaiting official guidance to confirm that we can begin to vaccinate patients in cohorts 10-12 and will contact patients when we are able to.
What is the plan now?
- Continue to offer patients who have received their 1st vaccine at Brough Surgery to attend for their 2nd vaccine between 8 and 12 weeks.
- If you have had a 1st dose elsewhere, you will need to return there for your 2nd dose. If you have moved area and are a significant distance from your original vaccination site, please email us so we can try to arrange giving you a 2nd dose at Brough Surgery. We will not automatically contact you.
- If patients are observing Islamic holy month of Ramadan between 12th April and 12th May and are concerned about being vaccinated during this time, please email us so we are able to assist you.
Information about the risk of blood clots when receiving the Astra Zeneca vaccine
We are aware that some patients may be worried following recent media reports about blood clots. We would like to reassure patients that the risk remains extremely low at 4 patients affected per million patients being vaccinated – a 0.0004% risk. More information can be found on the attached patient leaflet.
At present, we are only given Astra Zeneca vaccines to use at Brough Surgery for 1st doses. We are allocated a set amount of 2nd dose Pfizer vaccines to give to patients who had their 1st Pfizer with us. We are not allocated any Pfizer vaccines to give as 1st doses or as 2nd doses to patients who had Astra Zeneca as their 1st vaccine. If you choose not to have the AZ vaccine, there may be a delay offering you an alternative and you may have to travel to an alternative vaccination centre.
